Translation

At Glyph, translation is more than a mechanical process of exchanging words from one language with words from another. For us translation is a methodical art that brings together the following:

Translators

The translators that make up Glyph's global network are trained professionals, often holding advanced degrees from their native countries. With such resources at its disposal, Glyph always assigns translation projects to individuals with the technical and academic background appropriate for the subject matter at hand.

Reference Tools

Glyph believes in working with clients to create thorough reference materials (e.g. multilingual glossaries, style guides, UI screenshots) at the front end of any project. In taking this proactive approach to quality assurance, translation issues can be addressed before misunderstandings arise, thus ensuring project deadlines are met.

Desktop Publishing (Design and Layout)

Not everybody has an eye for design. That’s why Glyph incorporates Desktop Publishing specialists into its internal project process. With both linguistic and design sensibilities, our specialists apply their knowledge of all standard design and publishing applications to adapt the layout of translated documents to meet the requirements of the target language while maintaining the look of the original file.

Translation Environment Tools

The most common of the translation environment tools is Translation Memory (TM) technology. For clients who need to translate repetitive content or for those who regularly update content, this type of tool can be invaluable.

A TM is a database that stores existing translations, side by side with the original source text. By creating and maintaining TMs, Glyph can leverage previously translated materials to make translation of new content or document updates a more efficient and, as a result, more cost-effective process. We pass those savings onto our clients in the form or lower per-unit rates.

ATTENTION: USING TRANSLATION MEMORY TECHNOLOGY IS NOT AT ALL EQUIVALENT TO MACHINE TRANSLATION PERFORMED BY A COMPUTER. A human translator is responsible for every word translated by Glyph. TMs simply allow this work to be done more efficiently.

Glyph seamlessly integrates with its clients’ existing technology infrastructure for translation and TM management using all of the industry standard translation environment tools (SDLX, TRADOS, Déjà Vu, Catalyst) and standards (Unicode, XLIFF, TMX).
